Think Outside The Toast: Avocado Pizza Is Where Its At
Any way you slice it, avocado rules the food world these days.
It’s hard to find a menu that’s not hyping the green fruit in one way or another. And years after avocado toast became the ultimate food fad, the #avotoast game is still going strong.
Taking the trend to the next level of avo-awesomeness, chefs in Miami and New York are trading the toast for pizza dough. And we’re not mad about it.
At Matador Room tucked inside Miami Beach’s Edition Hotel, world-renowned chef Jean-George Georges Vongerichten puts a gourmet twist on typical toast by layering perfectly ripe avocado slices onto a chewy crust.
Then the ’za is topped with diced jalapeños, thinly sliced onions, and cilantro, drizzled with olive oil, and finished with a squeeze of lime juice to brighten it all up. Diners can’t get enough of this vibrant green pie.
At hotspot Kola House in New York City, chef Jon Feshan created a whole wheat masterpiece dressed with sliced radish, sunflower seeds, cilantro, serrano peppers, and lots of avo slices.
The popular pie is only available on Friday, Saturday, and Monday nights to accompany the restaurant’s live music sets. Only a dozen are made per night and they sell out quickly—get there early to snag one for yourself.
